John Alexander Wilson is a Singer, Composer and Speaker
John Alexander Wilson is a new singer, composer and speaker to emerge on the Christian music scene in the last year who is fast gaining recognition for his unique music ministry.
A passionate Christian and evangelist, John receives numerous invitations to speak and play each year in churches of all sizes across the denominations, sharing his remarkable journey to faith with people of all ages through original music and testimony.
He is a distinguished lyrical tenor and classical music graduate of Napier University (Edinburgh) where he majored in opera and vocal studies under the watchful guidance of Andrew Doig. John is an accomplished guitarist, keyboard player and composer. He is an experienced worship leader in both traditional and contemporary Christian music and has performed across the UK for New Christian Music, Keswick Ministries and Youth for Christ events. He also records and produces all his own material.
John became a Christian at nineteen. He writes: “a year before my conversion l was going through a difficult time but also a period of change as I had just been accepted into a conservatoire to begin training as classical singer. However I was hurting and discontent with life.
One evening I was sitting on a bus staring out the window at the beautiful Highland scenery when I dared to ask the two big Questions in life. Is there a God? And, does he Love me? At that precise moment a young man at the front of the bus turned around and starred at me looking quite startled. After a minute or two he came to the back of the bus and handing me a piece of paper he said “someone wants you to have this.” Then he calmly went back to his seat. As I opened up this piece of paper on it was written the word “AGAPE”. Just before getting off the bus I asked him why he had given me this note” he replied that God had told him to write this word down and hand it to me. Initially I didn’t believe him and was rather sarcastic towards him, confirming his reply with a mocking tone “God told you..?”
However the event was so strange it played over in my mind for the rest of the afternoon. I phoned my dad who was a Christian and always inviting me to church to ask him if he had ever heard of a word called AGAPE. He informed me that it was an amazing coincidence to ask about this word because he had just been studying it a few hours earlier. (The same time I was handed this piece of paper)
After a discussion witth my dad and a google search I discovered that Agape is a Greek word that has been defined as the highest and purest form of uncondional love, one that surpasses all other types of affection. Agape is mainly associated and reserved for the God of the bible. “For God so loved (Agape) the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
I realized that with a sincere and broken heart I had just asked God if he loved me, and God responded quite miraculously through a young man I have never seen again. I was not yet a Christian and there was so much I didn’t understand about Jesus, Christianity or the Bible, but I composed my first song called “Agape” based on my experience. I began to attend church every so often and one year later I was convicted of my sin at a church communion service. I repented and asked Jesus to be my Lord and savior. My life changed and now I have a personal relationship with him. I now share my everyday relationship and experiences of God with other people through my music.”
John continued to write more contemporary folk and pop songs that reflected his faith whilst undergoing classical voice training at university. At the same time he began to grow and mature in his faith wilst taking a keen interest in theology and biblical authority. As a result his songs and lyrics began to embody a depth of biblical insight and wisdom. In his final year he took the decision not to pursue a classical singing career because he felt Gods calling on his life to minister through his songs.
In March 2009, John recorded his second contemporary album 'Eternity' , which saw his first single from this album 'Wonderfully and Fearfully Made' reach number 1 in the UK and European NCM Christian Music charts. Autumn 2009, saw John tour for 3 months, covering almost 12,000 miles, visiting over 40 churches and ministering to thousands.
John continues to lead outreach events in collaboration with various, community groups, Christian charities, festivals and churches who recognize that hosting a concert by John, is an ideal opportunity to share the gospel with their communities in a freindly, relaxed and informal setting. John also takes part in various radio interviews, Resource exhibitions, Youth Groups and is available for School assemblies.
He writes “there are many people who would not normally attend a church service, but are quite willing to come along to a professional concert. so Christians often make the most of the opportunity to invite their non Christian freinds and family along to these events and its wonderful when you see people uplifted and encouraged through the contemplation of the music and lyrics"
